PhD Nutrition Smart Bar 24 x 50g Bars

PhD Nutrition’s Smart Bar fills the void left behind by modern-day nutrition bars crammed full of sugar, hidden carbohydrates, gelatine, artificial preservatives and other ingredients that essentially are no good for those seeking optimum health and vitality. The Smart Bar contains no artificial sweeteners! The major source of carbohydrates within the bar comes in the form of 100% natural fruit juice, which as many of you will know contains fibre and naturally-occurring fructose, a carbohydrate with a low glycemic rating of 23. Whilst many protein bars contain potentially-unhealthy ingredients such as corn syrup, glucose, hydrogenated fats and other such additives, the Smart Bar is purity in comparison. PhD Nutrition were determined to create a nutrition bar that differed from the rest of the market. Their objectives were clear:
1. PhD Nutrition didn’t want the bar crammed full with artificial sweeteners.
2. PhD Nutrition wanted a natural and healthy carbohydrate source that rated low on the glycemic index.
3. PhD Nutrition wanted the bar to contain healthy nutrients not usually seen in a sports bar.
4. PhD Nutrition wanted a nutrition bar with Whey Protein and Micellar Casein for slow, steady release of amino acids throughout the day.
5. PhD insisted that no nutrition bar in our range would contain hydrogenated fats or gelatine.
Athletes need balance in their daily diet. Being excessively low in any nutrient and they could be missing out on all the benefits that each nutrient can supply to the diet. Smart Bar, provides the ultimate, healthy bite-size, dual-action protein bar, which serves as either.

Reviews
Bars taste ok, but those crunchy bits are a bloody nightmare, like chewing on pebbles. My mate said it totally put him off it as they gave him pain in his teeth lol, i wont be buying these again
I didnt mind these bars. A good snack and the right amount of protein. For me they were a little sweet and the soy crunch bits were a bit too crunchy.
spot on,great taste, not too big not too small, right amount of protein needed in a snack aswell
Q & A
- Q.
I've read that soy protein lowers testosterone in men, is this true' The smart bar and the phd 6hr blend both contain soy protein.
- A.
The PhD 6hr only contains a small amount of soy, which is not enough to have a negative effect on male hormonal status. The bar has well under 10 grams of soy. However, there is evidence that soy can lower test (see the article - http://www.tropicanafitness.com/view/v/article/a/13), so men should avoid taking protein products in which the main ingredient is soy. Labels must list ingredients in the same order as their prevalence in the product (for instance, if you look at the 6hr label, the last protein listed is soy because it contains less soy than the other proteins). It would probably take at least 20 or 30 grams of soy per day on a regular basis to have a significant effect on test levels.
- Q.
I've researched this product as a possible replacement for drinking shakes all the time and PHD has been better than most for me so far.
I have been told that this is a good idea for a preworkout snack, what about post workout'
Would you suggest it as a good source of protein for after my workout' - A.
The ingredients are essentially fruit juice and quality proteins. The main protein is still whey, so if you have a problem with whey protein then it may persist with the bar but there is no way of knowing for sure. The bar has a decent amount of carbs a protein and looks like it would be good for taking before and after training.
